BICYCLES ON THE SIDEWALK: NO

"Bicycles on the sidewalk, no!" is the phrase pedestrians often shout when they see someone cycling in the space reserved for foot traffic.

Inspired by this expression, I decided to create a series of drawings of burning cars to shift the focus onto the vehicle that, in an urban context, poses a greater danger. The car is more powerful, larger, noisier, and more polluting than a person on a bicycle, even if the cyclist is where they shouldn’t be.

What should be obvious isn’t so clear, as many pedestrians seem to have normalized the violence caused by car overuse in cities.

To ensure this reflection doesn’t remain an isolated thought, I want to accompany the drawings with quotes and real data about the misuse of public space by private motor vehicles and the benefits of adopting a healthier mobility model for our cities and the people who live in them.
